This Week in The Garden + World Environment Day / World Oceans Day

Winter is here and, unseasonably, brought with it a long awaited break from recent weeks of wet weather. The garden is still drying out and I have a lot of catch-up work to do tidying up and trying to restore health to some of our hard-hit plants. Tips for maintaining a healthy wet-weather winter garden are most welcome!  The change of seasons is also a great time to catch up on garden journals and planning (free printables available here) so that's on my to-do list as well. My to-do list is growing quite long as chilly days make it very tempting to procrastinate on my garden chores! What's happening in and around your garden this week?  Whatever your garden/green news, we would love to hear about it. Please leave a comment or post us a message on the GiRL Facebook page I look forward to sharing our garden with you as it grows.

Don't forget that this coming Sunday (5 June) is World Environment Day.   This year's theme is Go Wild for Life, encouraging us to learn more about biodiversity, at-risk wildlife, and illegal wildlife trading.  Remember, small changes add-up! This might seem like a big-scale issue far from home for many of us; however, we can still make a difference.  From supporting governments and advocacy groups to making considered choices about what products we buy and support, we can help make changes - big and small.  Consider your local environment and biodiversity threats as well, such as local policies, pests and disease, encroachment, exploitation, poaching, habitat destruction, etc.  Take some time this weekend to explore and learn more. This year's theme World Environment Day compliments well with World Oceans Day this coming Wednesday (8 June).  This year's theme is Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet, encouraging us to take action for the prevention of plastic pollution in our oceans.

What will be be doing to take action? Keep an eye on our Facebook / Twitter pages to find out!
