We are (confession...) going to work with a landscape designer for the structure as we need to comply with some very stringent boundary covenants on fencing, hedging, etc. but will still be doing the "fun stuff" ourselves. We did a landscape consult for our current house for similar reasons, and he was brilliant at working with me on a concept for replacing the old (rotten) back deck/stairs. The new deck and stairs make all the difference ion connecting the house/garden. Sometimes, you just need an expert, and I'm a-ok with a little help. Should be very interesting indeed.
