This Week in The Garden: Hello, Sunshine!

It's sunny! It's dry!  The skies are blue, the birds are singing, and the washing machine is exhausted. :)  At long last, we've had a break in the weather that allowed the garden to dry (along with a zillion loads of laundry) so that it could be raked, cut, and tidied.  As this is a pretty quiet period in the garden (dormant planting/transplants done, winter garden growing quietly, too early for spring planting...) I also took advantage of the warm dry weather to tackle some long overdue chores in/around the house, like washing the windows and other heavy cleaning.  I rewarded myself for the effort with a few afternoon sunshine breaks with a book and the pets, soaking up the warm sun in the garden for the first time in ages. Bliss!  Of course, the clouds are already moving in and wet weather will be back before the weekend arrives.  I know it probably seems very strange to those of you with snowy winters to think of our soggy single digits as winter - it's kind of like a purgatory of perpetual autumn dragging into spring rather than an actual winter.  What's happening in and around your garden this week?  Whatever your garden/green news, we would love to hear about it. Please leave a comment or post us a message on the GiRL Facebook page I look forward to sharing our garden with you as it grows.
